Green Zazen Show and Sale Through Feb. 13

Remember to go see my exhibit at The Eclectic Eye, 242 South Cooper, sooner rather than later. The terries have been flying off the shelves (not FLYING but you get the picture) so don’t miss this rare opportunity to shop for your own Green Mansion. I delivered some more lovelies this week to wait for their new homes, maybe with you!

This gorgeous terry is named Nouveau Verde, and contains an assortment of miniature begonias, Mosses, tillandsia, neoregelia, crystals, petrified wood, and more.  The photo below was taken about nine months ago.  Go see it now, the begonias are spectacular!

Robbie liked the one below so much she decided to give it a permanent home at The Eclectic Eye, hooray!  I didn’t tell her, but I had named it Eclectic because of the curious assortment of elements in it.  The photo below was taken about nine months ago, go see how much it’s grown.

Many of the terry babies are built with Pygmy sundews, carnivores that trap tiny insects with their enticing sticky hairs:

And if you are in the Crosstown Concourse, go see my piece titled Mermaids Cove in the Homeward Bound exhibit at Crosstown Arts through January 27.

As always, feel free to call me at 901-828-3685 with any questions or send me  message.  Peace and love to us all.

Call 901-828-3685 for more information or send a message below.

Carnivorous Sundew plants and tillandsia bulbs, fossils and mosses all add up to a landscape from another planet!

Here’s my first attempt at an artist’s bio:

Plants are sentient, mysterious creatures from another kingdom, who will communicate with us if we can be still and pay attention. Building these Green Mansions is a long process, akin to writing poetry, I think. The colors and textures, as well as growth habits and tendencies of the plants are the palette with which I can construct the bones of a design to grow and change for years to come. I propagate many of the plants I use which gives me the time to get to know them individually, and imagine the container and companions that would be best with them.

The terrariums on exhibit range in age from 2 months to 4 years. They are similar to bonsai, with the plants kept in check with careful trimming. Some of the plants are miniature or very slow growing, needing no trimming. Others can be aggressive, resulting in a design that will be much more fluid over the years as the plants compete for resources and are shaped by my hand. You can see more about this on my website, or give me a call.

I open my studio to teach people about the art and science of building and maintaining terrariums, kokedama, and bonsai. In addition, I consult with people who want to learn about house plants and gardening in their own homes or offices, usually in half day sessions, and enjoy sharing my love for our green companions with people who have never considered or understood how to appreciate their beauty and life force. My students learn basic considerations for selecting plants for a particular space, and technical skills on handling, transplanting, watering, etc. which, once learned, open up the world of plants for most people to explore and enjoy.

Come See Me at Dabney’s Fall Festival Saturday Oct. 21!!

The fine folks at Dabney’s Nursery invited me to bring some terrariums for sale this Saturday and I said, HECK YEAH!!!  There’ll be mule drawn carriage tours of the nursery, BBQ, a petting zoo, and live music by Delta Joe Sanders.  Who could ask for more on a beautiful October afternoon?

So, in between all of that fun stuff, step inside the gift shop to see my new creations.  I have a variety of smaller terrariums, some that can hang in a kitchen window, and will bring a few larger guys, too.  Also, a good variety of healthy, happy tillandsias (air plants), a few terrarium kits, and a “build your own” for kids while supplies last!

Dabney’s is located at 5576 Hacks Cross Road; I’ll be there from 11 am to 4 pm, so come on down and visit a while.  Got a question?  Give me a holla at 901-828-3685.

This beauty is now 6 months old and needs a good trimming – come see it. You might have a table just waiting for it at home!

Tiny green jewels
You can put them away from a window so long as you have a broad spectrum light. Plants need light to make food, remember?

About Green Mansions Memphis

image

.

Green Mansions are unique, sustainable terrariums created by Nancy Morrow. More than a rainforest in a jar, they are sentient friends, silent wondrous worlds of green life. Lift the top and smell Eden. Terries are low maintenance and particularly suited to urban environments and small spaces. I plant my terries with loving care, then spend weeks or months training the plants and shaping the landscape; they live for years with minimal maintenance.

Green Mansions are popular gifts for housewarmings, and brighten up any office desktop or reception area.  Many people keep them on kitchen breakfast countertops, or under skylights in the master bath.  Kids who like the outdoors are fascinated by the ever changing worlds under glass. They are long lasting gifts for Mom, Dad, and anyone you want to show some love.  Cut flowers are pretty for day; a terrarium will bring years of joy.

Get your own tiny rainforest at Diane’s Art, Gift, and Home, on Overton Park Street; at the Annesdale Park Gallery or The Spa Midtown, both  on Peabody Avenue, all in Midtown Memphis.

Prices range from $25 for wine glass moss creations to an average of $80 for a medium tabletop bowl; prices vary by size, the rarity of the plants, etc.

Terrariums, plants and supplies are available by appointment at the Mansion, along with the opportunity to build your own and learn about the world of gardening under glass.  Custom designs are my specialty, and inquiries on plant matters are welcome.  You can contact me for an appointment, or watch for my sales and workshops at locations around the city.
