Moss Under Glass

This moss garden has been growing about a year and is really happy.  The baby fern appeared last month.  It will probably not grow much larger due to the limited resources, but is making a valiant stand.  Moss will grow well under glass if you can get past the initial transplant shock.

Disappearing Leaves on My Purple Passion Plant!

I brought in to my sun porch with a tropical fuchsia some leaf munching caterpillars in late September, and have been plagued ever since with sudden attacks that leave only the nubs of the stem and a little rib where once had been lush leaves.  I had hoped I had found all the little boogers except all of a sudden last week it started back… Here is what I found this morning.  I am glad they won’t have a chance to lay eggs somewhere.  So, remember to be extra vigilant right now, all kinds of plant pests are going to be materializing in your indoor gardens.

Come see me and my Green Mansion terrariums at the Garden Path Studio Holiday Open House on Sunday Dec 13, 1-6 pm.  597 Madison at Marshall.  Live music, holiday cheer and maybe a little shopping, too.   Ceramics, paintings, wearable woven art, photos, jewelry, terrariums, and more! Follow this page for updates, or post any inquiries, or email [email protected].  Ya’ll come!

The above newly planted bowl of espicia has really grown beautifully, and I found a cool space helmety top for it to grow into.  It is about to start blooming just in time for the sale!

Come See Me Saturday April 4 at Annesdale Park Gallery

I’ll be planting some big pots for the front terrace at David Hasty’s gallery on Saturday, and fiddling with the terrariums he has scattered around the gallery. I feel privileged to have my little friends in such a gorgeous space.  I have an especially elegant terry with a chocolate soldier espicia blooming right now, it’s something to see, as well as moss bowls and more looking for good homes. Espicias are especially suited to terrariums; they are related to African violets, but have incredible patterned leaves and grow by sending out aerial plantlets like a spider plant – you can see one of the plantlets in the top of this photo with its roots dangling in search of soil to settle into.  Come anytime on Saturday between 10 and 5 to see what’s up!  The gallery is at 1290 Peabody Avenue, just west of Cleveland.  For more info you can call me at 901-828-3685, or check it out at http://theannesdaleparkgallery.com

Hey Hey Hey, It's a Beautiful Day!

Friday after a week with a lot of rain and chill.  Sun came out, bright but not toooo bright, office closed up shop and time for weekend pursuits.  Enjoy the fruit trees blooming, daffodils shining, and all the early morning ruckus from the birds.  Tomorrow March 21 is the Spring Fling Master Gardener Sale at the AgriCenter.  I highly recommend it, and plan to be there.  I am particularly fond of the master gardener’s sale tables with perennials from someone’s yard, often only barely emerging for the spring, and a Popsicle stick with the plant name.  Passalong plants are usually very well-suited to the climate.  Keep digging and grinning, ya’ll.
